Trichloroacetic Acid
(TCA) Chemical Peel
TCA peels are safe, non-toxic and ideal for any skin
type/color, acne, age spots, scars, sun-damaged skin, white spots, hormonal mask
(Melasma), liver spots, large pores, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, freckling,
crow’s feet, flaky skin, and lip creases. It ultimately replaces damaged skin
with new healthy skin cells. A tolerable, mild burning sensation occurs for
about 3 to 4 minutes while the acid is applied. A few days after the procedure,
a scab is formed and shortly after the peeling begins. While the skin is healing
it may feel itchy due to the new “baby skin” that is coming in. It is crucial to
keep an antibacterial ointment and a high SPF on the skin to protect it. Any
kind of direct sunlight needs to be completely avoided. The peeling is usually
complete within 7 to 10 days. It is recommended that face makeup not be applied
during the exfoliation phase (eye makeup and lipstick are fine). Results are
noticeable with a new improved complexion. The skin will continue to improve for
the next 4 to 6 weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier and more
youthful looking. Three consecutive peels are recommended for deeper lines and
wrinkles, stubborn darker areas and active acne. Peels may be done at 6-8 week
intervals until desired goals are reached. This procedure is wonderful for
